My Favorite Personal Development Media of the Year

I am a self-proclaimed PD junkie. If I ever find a moment to myself, you will almost often find me consuming some sort of personal development. When you scan my Goodreads “read books” list, it’s about 80% PD. I am always always on the lookout for new ways to learn, grow, and develop as a person. Today, I would like to share with you my favorite PD media of the year so far!

I say “media” because this goes beyond books…my favorite PD includes books, audiobooks, podcasts, movies, and things. Buckle up…because if you’re obsessed with PD like me, your “to consume” list is about to get longer!

  1. The Third Door: The Wild Quest to Uncover How the World’s Most Successful People Launched Their Careers by Alex Banayan

I listened to this one as an audiobook and, in my opinion, that was the right choice. Alex Banayan narrates it himself, so it’s almost like you’re taking his journey with him. This book is about the pursuit of success…how to keep motivated and keep pushing when the odds are against you…and how to know when it’s time to quit. It’s funny, intense, and sometimes cringy. I promise you won’t be able to stop listening as you get advice from some major brain of the business world…but also from some people you may not have heard of.

  2. Peaceful Warrior

This movie quickly moved up to one of my top 5 favorite watches in personal development. I have seen it twice already because it was so meaningful to me. This film is about the pursuit of success and the importance of the journey. If you’ve ever found yourself lost in the maddening need to reach a goal, this one is for you. And make sure you’re in it all the way to the end…the last 5 minutes will leave you contemplating life.

  3. How Are You, Really? Living Your Truth One Answer at a Time by Jenna Kutcher

Jenna Kutcher is one of my favorites. She has a way with making you feel like you’re listening to a best friend. The book was so easy to consume because it was so raw and real. It had me thinking…”yes, this! Someone finally gets it!” Jenna walks you through the importance of rest…especially for those that tend to “go, go go!”. She allows helps guide you to ask yourself how you really are. Not how you portray yourself to the world or how you wish you were…how you are. It’s a helpful truth that can guide you toward finding out what your really need.

  4. Greatest Life Transformation Behind Bars with Damon West on The Ed Mylett Show

This podcast episode left my jaw on the floor and light a fire under my booty. Damon West’s story is so powerful that it can have you ready to totally change your life the second you finish listening. From a jail cell to motivating college football teams, Damon West teaches you what it means to “Be A Coffee Bean”. Set aside enough time to listen to this is one go… you won’t regret it.

  5. The High Performance Planner by Brendon Burchard

This planner is a GAME CHANGER. It works along side Brendon Burchard’s High Performance Habits, but it’s not necessary to read the book to get started. The planner features weekly planning, daily planning and intention setting, and weekly reviews. But the power of this planner is because of the research done at the High Performance Institute. The planner uses the research to best set you up for success each day…from finding a moment to share your gratitude for another person to planning our your intentions for how to approach a difficult meeting. I can say, without a doubt, that if you put in real effort to use this planner, your life will change for the better.

That’s it for today! But as I said, I am always on the hunt for more PD…I am always learning. Please let me know if you engage with any of these by sending me a DM, commenting, or tagging me on social media. I would love to hear what you think! And, as always, don’t hesitate to share your personal favorite PD as well!
